If you are new to QR Codes, now is the time to start learning about them. They will be a big part of your life in the future if you are a marketing company, marketing person or retailer. If you have a smart phone, but have never heard of or tried a QR Code, give this one a try. Just download this app: Neo Reader iphone app and then scan (take a picture of) the above bar code and see what happens.

You might be surprised but you will certainly understand why Brandwise “Like’s” QR Codes.

QR Codes are going to be a tool to help make it easier to communicate and make offers to customers or prospects. Think about this in the future — you may go to a store, pick up a product, scan the QR Code and then get an offer or discount for becoming a Facebook fan, Twitter follower or signing up for the company’s newsletter.

All we can say is… all this new technology is pretty amazing and makes it so much easier to connect and engage with your customers or prospects. Marketing is changing and it is good for both the buyer and the seller. Who knows where things will be in just 1-2 years. Things are changing so quickly these days. It sure is a fun ride.

  1. Nathan, you are absolutely correct on this. QR Codes are so new that early adapters tend to not be too creative and use these tools most effectively. What are some ways you recommend making things more interesting and unique. Have you done any of this stuff or do you know any case studies to help the readers get some better ideas? Looking forward to hearing your ideas and other people’s thoughts on QR Codes.

  3. In retail, its a no brainer. Being able to instantly engage a consumer with a downloadable coupon, enter a sweepstakes or even just send to a landing page to tell a deeper story are just a few. Best Buy is using it on all their products which sends you right to a product page where you can get more detailed information and see reviews. A good application. I have yet to see any great B2B applications but it could be as simple as putting it on the back of a business card to download contact information right to the phone. I’m working with a client to use it on a trade show banner at their booth to send them to a landing page and enter a contest. For those who are familiar it becomes a non-intrusive way to collect info. For those who don’t know, it will become an engagement opportunity.

Dale, let’s connect soon and see where we can potentially partner on this.

  5. Brian, thanks for the comments. These are some great ideas and I know that B2B can be as successful as B2C. It is just a matter of creativity as both you and Nathan mentioned. I’d love to catch up Brian and see what you guys are doing these days. Give me a shout and maybe we can grab a coffee or lunch.

  7. I’ve actually used the QR codes in Best Buy because they seem to post only minimal information on some items and their sales people don’t always know all the details on items.

Recently an art group in the area painted a QR code on the side of a building and a billboard to call attention to one of their events. It was not scanable but if you went to their landing page there was a scanable code that worked and provided more info.

I’ve also seen them used in magazines but have yet to see one on a business card or other B2B use.

I added one for the heck up it to our website on the Contact page with a link to our Google Places page. Be interesting to see what comes out from this.

  9. Chuck, I like the idea of the artist using it. I wonder if a QR Code is something you would be able to reproduce at all or if it can only be created via digital software. You know maybe you create it via software and then add it to a painting or mural via a projector or something. Hmmm. Thanks for sharing this. I think the thing for B2B to get this to work effectively is going to be the need for analytics to track and measure results. Anyone know of any tools out there that create QR Codes with analytics?

    Brian,
Thanks for sharing these QR Code sites. These are very good. Are you using these with any of your clients? Or are you really not in the design process with any clients?

  15. QR Codes spotted at Discount Tire, NAB and Best Buy App. I had my tires rotated last week and noticed Discount Tire using QR Codes on banners in their store.

This week I was at the National Association of Broadcasters convention and saw QR Codes used in various vendor booths and also received several business cards with QR Codes on the front and back.

Today I downloaded a new app from the Android store for Best Buy. It includes a QR code Scanner app to make it easier to get info when you are in their store. There’s an iPhone app as well.

  17. I ran across this string of conversations on LinkedIn about QR codes with some interesting applications and links. A restaurant puts QR codes on the staff’s t-shirts. If you take a picture with your smartphone it takes you to a page with a free offer.

  19. @Dale – I’ve actually been on a mission talking QR codes with anyone I meet. It’s helped position me as a thought leader and has yielded some new business. Amazingly, it’s still so new to many that my conversations have many just beginning to think of applications and giving me the opportunity to collaborate. I have it on my business card now which links to my jumpscan.com page. That has been a great conversation starter in itself. By the way, check out http://www.youscan.me as another FREE generator with analytics.

I’ll shoot you an offline message about getting together next week.
