Inbound Links - image

What are "inbound links" you may be asking yourself. Well, inbound links are links from external web sites that link into your web site. So basically they are other people or web sites that like your web site or content so much that they are willing to put a link on their web site pointing to your web site.

Places Inbound Links come from:

  • Directories you may have listed your site with (Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, industry organizations, etc.)
  • Testimonials from clients, vendors, friends, family etc.
  • Business Partners
  • People that want to share your web site content will also link to your web site or a page on your site or blog article
  • Social Media sites - any site you put a profile on will usually offer a place to put a link back to your site (Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, Namyz, Twitter, MySpace, Digg, etc.)
  • and many others…

Ok, now that you understand what inbound links are, let's answer why they are so important. The more inbound links you have coming into your site the better chance your prospective clients will find you. The key is that you have inbound links coming from quality sites though and sites that your prospects would be on. So do not go out and just start throwing links up all over the internet and telling people to link to you. You need to make these links as high of quality as possible.

Ok, beyond just having links at places where your prospect might find you what else is this inbound linking good for?

How about raising your page rank in google. You see the more inbound links you have coming into your page or web site, the higher Google will rank your site.

This means– the more quality inbound links you have, the higher you will be (rank) on a search engine.

As we said earlier, you can not trick Google by using spammy or "black hat" techniques, because eventually this will catch up with you and google will blacklist you and you will loose all your ability to rank.

The real way to get inbound links is to develop a lot of quality content that someone wants to share or link to.

Think about it when you see a web page with an article or something that offers some great tips to improve your life or business in some way, don't you want to share this with your business partners, friends and family. Of course you do. So this is the best technique for getting quality inbound links.

If you would like to read more on inbound links from Googles point of view here is a link to one of their articles. By the way this is an outbound link on our site, but an "Inbound Link" to this google page.

Over the last 6 months we have been working on building quality content on our site and trying to build more inbound links. Here is a sample of the direction we are going by delivering quality content. Notice how things keep going up (once we started making this a priority that is).
