Want to be a sales rockstar? Then use guitar music tablature.

Posted by Dale Berkebile on Mon, Jan 16, 2012

For those of you who know me well, you may know I am a music fanatic. For those that do not know me well, keep reading you'll learn soon enough. I love all kinds of music - Punk Rock, Industrial, Country (mostly outlaw country), Jazz, Electronica, Rap/Hip-Hop, Reggae, Ska, Folk, Singer/Song Writer, Heavy Metal, Classic Rock and the list goes on and on. I love it all. What I do not love though is mainstream drivel. I do not listen to the radio unless it is Pandora where I can make my own channels and vote out the crap I do not like.

The reason I am telling you this is I am similar to a wine snob when it comes to music. I am very picky. Although I love all kinds of music, just because the radio or music industry pushes the new Justin Bieber as the next best thing, I am not on board with this. A musician needs to move me in order to make my list. Being moved is the real justification because there is no chance that the Sex Pistols or the Dead Milkmen are really talented in the musical sense. So what then makes even a punk rock musician a rockstar? PASSION! They don't care if people think they suck. They are going to do what they love and practice and keep playing for their own joy if for nothing else.

How does this tie into sales? Well I have a passion for business, design and sales like no one else. This passion runs deep and I will eat dog shit sandwiches for years as I master my craft. I have mastered Design. I have been working on learning business for over a decade and would say I am good, not a master yet, but good. Sales on the other hand I am quickly on the mastery path. I have spent years trying to figure this stuff out. It wasn't until I got a sales evaluation, hired a sales coach, went through training and practiced like crazy was I able to get to a point where I would say I am on the advanced level and quickly heading into mastery. I still have a few more years to get under my belt before I would consider myself a true master, but I am getting there.

How do sales in my life and my love for music tie together? Here's the answer. Since I love music, and since I have reached several stages of success in business, I believe you can do anything you put your mind to. One thing people do not tell you is putting your mind to something is not enough. You need to put your heart into it as well. This is where the passion comes in. I have taken music lessons. I picked up the "harp" and tried to learn how to rock the blues like Sony Boy Williamson, Jim Fitting, and Little Walter. What I found was the harmonica is not as easy as it looks. I've also tried the guitar briefly. What I know is I will never be the rockstar I'd love to be since it will take me years before I will be able to make a living at playing music, or at least the type living I am used to living these days.

So if you are looking to be a sales rockstar, you can not just go to the bookstore pick up a book on sales and tomorrow start closing deals and making $100K. It just doesn't happen like this. Nor can you pick up a guitar and some tablature and become a guitar virtuoso next week. Can you become a master? Only if you commit to working on it daily and find a passion for this new skill you are trying to learn (sales or music). Do you want to learn to become a sales rockstar? Then find an expert in sales and have them train you, learn and use a sales system (similar to sheet music or tablature) and practice like crazy. By doing this, I have seen many small businesses double and triple their business within a year (I have tripled my business in a year through this program). For larger companies we have seen people hit sales goals consistently like never before.

So how do you put all these things in place? Well we already put together the expert sales trainer, a sales evaluation (for you and all sales staff), a sales system, an aligned marketing system to feed leads to your sales team along with sales and marketing coaching to hold you accountable and keep you humming right along. All you need to do is, bring is your passion for this business development training course.
